First week
Well, the first week of the quarter has come and gone. And a fine week it was. Well, probably the finest this quarter is going to see. That is, of course, unless I get me some sweet lovin' in a limo made of the bones of endangered/extinct species. Heck, even if it were just lined with these bones. That would still top this week. So far I'm not behind in my classes, though that could change really quickly. Compilers and Operating Systems are both large project classes. Group work for them both. I've got a cool partner for Compilers, someone I already know and seems quite reliable. So that's a good sign. The only bad thing is the Compiler project is in Java. Stupid Java. Operating Systems is in C. Not C++, but C. Wow, I didn't realize what a difference there was. C++ is so much easier. Heh, C looks dirty too. C++ is definately more elegant. Oh well. I guess I have to get used to gcc and make. Sigh.
My Ethics class is with the same prof I had last year when I took Ethics. The class seems kinda cool. It's more meta-ethics than ethics though. Last year we studied what was right and wrong, now we're studying what "right" and "wrong" are, how we find out what they are, and why they are what they are. Of course, we all know these answers already (or at least I do), but it's still good/fun to learn other thoughts, and to strengthen my own arguments and beliefs.
Seeing as I didn't have the internet last week, I finally started reading The Fountainhead. It'll probably take me a year or so, since I'm only getting a page here and there read, but it's good to be reading again. Roark is cool. As I'm reading it, I'm definately noticing how over-the-top the bad people are. I don't remember Atlas Shrugged being like this, but maybe that was because I read it first. Anyway, it's a fun read.
On an interesting sidenote, apparently someone got to my page by doing a yahoo search for "toilet sensual." I'm only hoping that they had me bookmarked, and this is just a coincidence, and that I didn't actually show up in search results for that. Then again, unless I have random strangers reading this (which I don't think have have (m)any of) than that means one of you guys who bookmarks me did a search for "toilet sensual." Why the fuck would you search for that? What the hell is wrong with you people?

<Isn't a cylon>
Wow. It's been a while, hasn't it? For those of you who were unblessed by cell phone excuses, or in-person appologies, I appoloigize for not having blogged, and for not being on aim for the past two weeks. But I have an excuse. Yes. And this time it's not because I hid a body in the wall and accidently cut the phone line. See, the past six months, we've had a landline in the appartment. Laura didn't have a cell phone, and it made DSL a bit cheaper, so we enjoyed a phone number for a while. Before Laura left, she canceled the phone line - fine thing to do since she's the only one who uses it. Only thing is, apparently when asked if she wanted to keep the dsl service, she replied, "negative, Captain." And, she didn't even tell us. Bad mistake. Around three am on Tuesday morning of the twenty-fourth of March, the DSL went out. I thought maybe Qwest was just being lame, so I went to work not thinking much of it. I came back and it still wouldn't go on, so I called Qwest and found out what happened. Qwest guy had me sign up to open a new account with them, since they couldn't just reactivate the old one. Unfortunately that was to take a week. So I patiently wait, not doing any of the organizing I had put off all quarter until when I finally had time spring break. Tuesday comes around again, and it's still not working. I call Qwest and see what the deal is - turns out this jackass from the week before didn't put in my order, so they didn't even have me in the system to get dsl activated. The woman I was talking to about it all was very nice about the whole thing, she appologized, and put through a request to rush it, since they had fucked it up. I'm quite greatful, but it still could take a while. Meanwhile I'm having my CS classes with mailing lists and homeworks posted already. Kinda hard when I don't have the net to do all these web-assignments. Finally, I get a call from the Qwest lady on Thursday saying it should be up - I call tech support, they say it's not up yet. Friday I get another voicemail saying it's up again, this time it is. Yay! So Alden's back. I can finally live again. It was so weird not having the net...
