School, New Computer; What Else Is There?

So... yeah. Been a crazy week (well, as crazy as my life can be).

I had remembered Far Cry getting frame rates around 170 average, and suddenly I wasn't getting them anymore. No matter what I did - restores, driver updates, driver rollbacks, uninstalls, anything, they wouldn't come back. So, since it was still fairly early in the new computer's life, I decided to reformat to try to fix it. And Lo 'n' Behold, it didn't. Turns out I was comparing frame rates within a small corridor to those outside on an island with people shooting at me, and shimmering watter all around. Not exactly a fair test. Anyway, the new system has been having some problems. Sometimes the hard drive will get disconnected by the bios while Windows is booting, and I'll have to open it up and plug it in again. Though it's fine while it's up. Windows also took an obscenely long time booting up after installing drivers too. So much so that I ended up reinstalling it several times before I actually figured this out and sat through them all. I'm glad I had a lot of reading to do. But now everything's hunky dory. I'm going to give it a few more weeks before I declare it okay and wipe out the old one. Zap!

Oh, and I'm not going to run benchmarks on my machine, too much of a hastle for me to set up (I think). But I did get 7100+ on 3DMark earlier, and on an average Far Cry map I get around 120 fps. That should give you some idea.

Classes look interesting. The AI teacher doesn't seem to know how to teach. But it may just be because she's used to teaching intro students who don't know anything. I would like to take it from a different teacher, but I don't know what else I'd take this quarter. Networking is awesome. Gribble is a great teacher. Of course, we're not even through the first week yet, so we'll have to see. I dropped my Philosophy of Physical Science class in favor of a Comic Book class. The class looks like it'll be pretty cool, but I must say I am really disappointed that they changed the cover on Batman: The Dark Knight Returns. The old one was freakin' awesome, and the new one's lame (is too lazy to put up pictures).
