Most awesomest weekend evers.
This weekend was so cool. For one thing, it kinda started on Thursday. Thursday was my last final, at 8.30 in the morning. It went well, seemed very easy. I talked to one of the professors afterwards about doing research. Any of you who've programmed probably know, compile errors are terrible. Aside from specific syntax errors such as a missing parentheses, they don't know what you're doing. And heaven forbid you miss a semicolon or a close squigly. So next fall I may be working on generating useful compiler errors. I get to get paid to write broken code! Well, probably not paid, but still.
Thursday afternoon I spent with Zach. We went up to Best Buy and Target, and I managed to spend a hundred dollars on dvds (five movies and the first season of Lois & Clark, yeah baby). As well as fifty on the collector's Half-Life 2, which seemed a good deal. Anyhoo, I wasn't really ready to spend that much, but I did. That evening I hung out with Andy. We watched Battlefield Earth. Heh, it was so awesome. I mean, it was bad, but cool. It's about Earth being enslaved into mining by this alien race and almost on the verge of extinction. The main character is captured from the wild (there are still a few who aren't mining slaves) and through the hubris of John Travolta, is smart enough to start a rebellion, kill all the aliens, blow up their home planet, and restart humanity. 'Twas awesome.
I still had work on Friday, but it wasn't bad. At the end my boss and I went to one of the bars on The Ave and shot pool - I need much more practice. Didn't do to well, though I had one game which I won fairly quickly. I dunno what it was, but I must be a real light-weight. We had two beers, which weren't bad at all, and I was definately feeling it. I was tipsy, maybe drunk, it didn't feel like much, but it lasted a lot longer than I expected. Though if I thought about it, I could feel normal for a few minutes before I felt it again. So I went back home and took a nap.
After me nap, I headed over to the Libertarian party. I didn't realize it was so far away. Google said it was only two miles, but it seemed like quite a bit more. It was at least 35 blocks. Ah well, I got there before most everyone I knew. It was quite fun. I got to debate with Sam and meet his friend Mike. After a great debate about investment in scientific research, the roll of government in it, the purpose of it, we discovered our differences were based upon our basic presupositions about man. Sam operates assuming everyone is like him, and that they will make the right decisions about things. I'm a bit too jaded for that. Don't get me wrong, when I meet someone I hope and treat them as if they do this until they prove me wrong, but I can't do the same for mankind in general. It's difficult when you can walk down the street and just be disgusted with what you see. Anyway, Zach showed up and got caught up in his own group, so we didn't get to talk then. I went with Sam, Jessica, and Mike to the Hurricane, a twenty-four hour diner down-town. For a twenty-four hour joint it was pretty nice (though the rest-rooms were terrible). Our waitress was very friendly and amusing. It pleased me. After hanging out there for an hour or so, I went home and the rest of them hung out on Sam's porch until some ungodly hour (I can only assume as much).
Saturday I stayed in, transfering data from my failing hard drive to Zach's external drive (which is now cooling quite effectively on my windowsill I must add). I watched an episode of Modern Marvels on glue, which was pretty awesome and read Fountainhead while I watched and waited for the copying to fail before trying it again. I'm almost done. Saturday night I went over to Zach's before he left. We watched Seed of Chucky which was actually quite amusing; oh, and Hannah Spearritt (great name for a Chucky film) is hot. We played Grand Theft Auto San Andreas, with which I am quite pleased. The game is huge, you can do so much, it's totally awesome. I did the first few missions, which were pretty introductory, but really emphasized how much you could do in the game. Your character is very maleable, asside from getting five hundred dollar cornrows or afros, you gain and lose weight and muscle, and increase your proficiency with vehicles and weapons. At the end we tried out some cheats. It was fucking awesome. We got a gimp suit (just like Pulp Fiction) and turned all the npcs (except cops) into hookers or their pimps. Then we got to run around and beat everyone, hookers, pimps, and cops alike, to death with a giant purple dildo. How can you not love a game that lets you both whip and stab people with dildos (there were several kinds)? I totally need to buy this game.
Sunday is totally awesome as well. Jo and I went to Alissa's graduation party. It had a lot of older family members of hers, which is to be expected. The little ones all played video games, just like I used to. The food was awesome too. But that's not the best part. We all got to watch as Andy proposed to Alissa. It was so cute. He told her how awesome she was, got down on one knee and whipped out the ring. And it was a totally sweet ring too. Andy designed and made it himself. White gold, huge center stone, two adjacent eye-drop shaped stones on either side, and then a larger and smaller square of some shiny iridescent stone (I don't know their names!) on either side. It's so cool. I'm totally considering getting Andy to make my wedding ring. Now all I need to do is find the right girl... I still can't believe how hard that is. But Andy and Alissa are so perfect for each other.
After the engagement party, Jo took me to Frys where I got a 200 GB HD (not GiB) for $80 (after rebate). Whee. That should make me less dependant upon this failing drive arangement. Jo and I then came back to my place where we watched Andromeda for about six hours. It was awesome.
Such a wonderous weekend. I doubt I'll find a better one unless it is because I'm in love again. Yay for happy times.
